Church
of Bon Jesus (Moti Daman)
The church of Bon Jesus was completed in its present
form in 1603 AD. The richly carved doorway and
the highly decorated interiors together with the
lofty ceiling and burnishing alter invite esthete
attention. In the early days of the Portuguese
rule Bon Jesus was a parish church,
Fort
of Moti Daman
The massive fort was built in 1559 ad. The structure
encompasses about 30,000 sq. meters, with 10 base
station and two gateways.
It
is shaped like polygonal with projection at regular
intervals of about 500 feet and carrying splayed
angular base station. All along the inner wall
there are barracks for defense personnals on the
northern side within the confine of the fort were
located the places, the secretariat and the other
official buildings. A large number of Portuguese
gentry and their families resided within the fort.
Fort
of Nani Daman
The small fort with high stone walls encloses
an area of 12250 sq. meters. It has three base
station and two gate ways.
The
most conspicuous part of the fort is the giant
gate way facing the river with a large statue
of St. Jerome and two giant human figures, on
the either side of the gate way. The imposing
church of Our Lady of the sea is the principal
building within the fort.
Devka
The long shore line at Devka has always fascinated
the tourists. The beautiful and well tended amusement
park with its musical fountain and kid's corner
has become very popular, attracting bus load of
tourists every week end.
When the park is illuminated of festive days,
it provides an enchanting sight. Most of the food
joints and posh hotels are just walking distance.
Taxes and auto rickshaw are easily available to
take you to Devka.
Children enjoy the facility of pony rides on the
sand. The traveler can beat the heat summer heat
by taking a swim in the cool waters of the sea.
Those who are not familiar with the beach at Devka
should kindly take note that rough rocky formation
are there beneath the water level.
Jampore
beach
Towards south, jampore beach leads on to the border
of Gujarat,
It is a pleasant spot, where one can commune with
nature in sublime solitude. This beach is most
suited to swimming as it is danger-free. During
low tide, one can walk on the soft wet sand right
in to the sea. Don’t miss a picnic with
your family in the shade of casuarinas plantation
on the sea shore.
